Meet Your Tour Guide

Dr. Andrew J. Torget

Our tours are led by Andrew J. Torget, Ph.D., a historian of nineteenth-century North America and one of the foremost experts on Texas history. After receiving his B.A. from Texas A&M University, Andrew earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in American history at the University of Virginia.

An award-winning speaker, Andrew has been featured in high-profile venues all over the United States, including Harvard, Stanford, Rice, Duke, Johns Hopkins, and the Library of Congress. The author or editor of five books, his most recent work, Seeds of Empire, won twelve book awards and prizes and was hailed by Texas Monthly as "the most nuanced and authoritative rewriting of Texas's origin myth to date."

In 2018, he set a Guinness World Record for the "World's Longest History Lesson," which was seen online by more than 30 million people. The Dallas Morning News named him a finalist for their "Texan of the Year" award in 2021 for the "uncommon, inspirational impact" of his work. In 2023, he served as a U.S. Fulbright Scholar to Germany, where he won the Berninghausen Prize for Outstanding Teaching at the University of Bremen.

More than anything, Andrew is known for his tremendous skill as a charismatic storyteller. He delights in leading tours that immerse people in the past and connects them to the remarkable stories of men and women – both famous and forgotten -- whose lives and deeds continue to shape our modern world.

Why Tour with Yellow Rose Tours?

• Our tour guide is THE best!

Absolutely no one can tell these stories -- or reveal the hidden sides of historical sites -- like Dr. Torget. (There is a reason he's won teaching awards on two different continents.)

• Our tours are not just about visiting historical sites – they are about stepping INTO the story of the past.

Our tours are all about connecting stories across time and space. Yes, you will learn amazing things at each and every stop during your tour. But more than that, you will discover how ALL these places – and the people who lived there – came together to shape a much bigger story that changed Texas (and almost certainly the world around it).

• We are built for active adults and seniors who love to learn!

Everything about our tours (from the selection of the sites, to the riveting lectures you'll hear all along the way, and everything in between) is meticulously designed to provide you with the best possible experience. We even provide our guests with special headphones that ensure you can always easily hear Dr. Torget at every stop.

• Our tours become little communities.

Traveling together with a group of people who also love history, enjoy discovering new places, and can't wait to share meals is a wonderful way to make new friends.

• Your comfort is important to us!

We love to travel well -- so we ride in nice buses, stay in lovely hotels, and always eat good food. (We also have free snacks and water on our buses, just sayin' . . .)

• Our tours are all-inclusive.

You won't have to pay extra for meals, site admissions, or entertaining yourself during a random afternoon break. All your transportation, lodging, meals, admissions, snacks on the bus, and even the special headphones for listening to Dr. Torget, are already included in the tour.

• You will never forget it!

Seriously. These are amazing tours!
