Bonnie and Clyde
Tour Overview
Travel back to the late 1920s and early 1930s – during the onset of the Great Depression -- as we explore the turbulent lives and dark legacies of Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker, Texas’s two most notorious outlaws. With Dr. Andrew Torget as our personal guide, we will explore the gritty world of 1920s West Dallas, where Clyde Barrow and his brothers turned to crime in order to escape the poverty surrounding them. Along the way, Barrow fell in love with Bonnie Parker, a young woman who dreamed of being an actress, and the pair set off on a murderous two-year crime-spree that would both captivate Americans and lead to one of the largest manhunts in Texas history. Following the exploits and adventures of Bonnie and Clyde, we will visit the sites of their youth, the scenes of their crimes, and the hideouts of the Barrow Gang, as Dr. Torget tells stories of life in Denton and Dallas during the heyday of infamous gangsters like Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly. After a catered lunch in Dallas’s Historic West End, we will follow the story of violence and mayhem that surrounded Bonnie and Clyde all the way to the ambush that killed them. The tour culminates with our ride back to Denton, as Dr. Torget traces the long legacy of Bonnie and Clyde’s short lives in American memory and culture.
